An Expert Strategy for Blackjack Super Fun 21

An Introduction

Blackjack is one of the most popular games at land-based casinos and at online gaming sites. Whilst the rules of blackjack will largely remain the same, there are many different blackjack variants with slightly altered rules. One of those variants is Blackjack Super Fun 21, which is available in most online casinos and at many land casinos.

Super Fun 21 has its own set of rules that slightly differ with other blackjack variants. For instance, should a player have a hand that contains six cards and does not bust, they automatically win. In addition, a player’s blackjack beats a dealer’s blackjack. Within this expert strategy, we take a look at the rules of Blackjack Super Fun 21 and provide some useful tips to help you improve your chances of winning.

Blackjack Super Fun 21 Rules

Essentially, Blackjack Super Fun 21 follows the same rules as a standard game of blackjack. Thus, the aim of the game is to make sure that you get as close to 21 as possible without going bust (exceeding 21). As is standard, number cards are worth their face values and the picture cards (Jack, Queen, King) are all worth 10. Aces can be worth either 1 or 11. Hence, to form a Blackjack, the strongest hand in the game, the player has to be dealt a 10-value card with an Ace.

The round starts after the player places their stake for each position they sit at. In several variants of Super Fun 21, the player can choose to sit at more than one position, playing multiple hands in a single round. Once the bets have been placed, the dealer proceeds to deal two face-up cards to the player position and take a face-up card and face-down card themselves. If the dealer is showing an Ace, the player will have the chance to place an insurance bet. This costs half their initial stake and pays 2:1 should the dealer have Blackjack.

Should the dealer’s face-up card be worth 10, they will still proceed to check for Blackjack, however, insurance is not offered. If the dealer has Blackjack, the round ends with the dealer winning – unless the player has Blackjack as well, which results in a push. If the dealer does not have Blackjack, the round continues as usual.

The player will have the chance to take one of the following actions:

  • Hit: This action means the player decides to take an additional card to their hand. There is no limit on how many cards a player can take as long as they do not exceed 21.
  • Stand: This action means the player does not want to take any more cards and is happy with their hand.
  • Double Down: This action means the player wishes to take one more card and double their bet in doing so. In Super Fun 21, unlike other blackjack variants, a player can Double Down at any point, even after hitting.
  • Surrender: This action means the player wishes to abandon their hand and receive back half their stake. It is possible to Surrender at any point in Super Fun 21, even after a Double Down.
  • Split: This action is only available to the player if they have two cards with equal value. The player will split their cards into two hands, doubling their bet in the process. Each hand will take an additional card and be played independently. In Super Fun 21, a split pair can be further split up to four times and split Aces can be split, hit, or doubled. It is even possible to surrender after splitting.

Dealer Rules

The dealer will play after the player’s turn is over. In Super Fun 21, the dealer will always be required to hit on 16s or lower and stand on 18s or higher. The rules around 17 are dependent on what the hand consists of. Soft 17s – a hand that contains an Ace – will mean the dealer must Hit until the hand is at least hard 17. As for hard 17s – a hand that does not contain an Ace – the dealer will be required to stand.

Payouts

At the end of the round, when the player and dealer have finished, the winning hands are paid out. If the player has a stronger hand than the dealer, they are paid out even money at 1:1. If the player has a hand of exactly 21 which is made up five cards, the payout is 2:1. If the dealer and player hands are equal, the round ends in a push, with money returned to the player. Blackjack pays even money at 1:1, unless it is with suited Diamonds, in which case, it pays 2:1. Finally, if the player has six cards or more without going bust, the hand automatically wins, regardless of what the dealer has.

How Super Fun 21 Differs from Standard Blackjack

Here is a short summary of how Super Fun 21 differs from regular blackjack:

  • Any Blackjack the player has beats the dealers, even if the dealer has Blackjack
  • Blackjack pays even money at 1:1, unless it is with suited diamonds, in which case it pays 2:1
  • A pair of Aces may be Split and even Doubled
  • Any pair may be split up to four times
  • It is possible to Surrender at any point of a round, even after Doubling Down
  • It is possible to Double Down at any point in a round, not only after the two initial cards are dealt
  • Any hand that has six cards without going bust automatically wins
  • When a player reaches exactly 21 with five or more cards, the payout is 2:1
